Cardboard Cutout

“A couple of years back an electro duo called Electroluvs were still flying the analogue vs PC flag high, well before the latest crop of synth pop dreamers plugged in their Korgs. One half of the equation (Billy) is back with “Cardboard Cutout” under the guise of The Paraffins. The electronica is now interrupted with wild effects, but there’s still the pleasant burble of digital sequencing and there’s definitely a bigger set of ideas in this clever but understated outing. “Toughest Girl In Town” is effectively a tribute to Phil Spector and the beat generation played out on a Sega Mega Drive – and that’s no easy achievement.” Milton Trebuchet, Manchester Music
